Paine descended from a signer of the Declaration of Independence & believed deeply in the equality of all people. She supported social justice for workers, African-Americans & women.

After obtaining her freedom, Jennings moved north and worked as a servant for a Waltham family that encouraged women’s employment, women’s engagement in politics and the women’s vote. There is no known record of her own thoughts on voting rights.
