Important news for our trail users and land activists - Update 5/28

ON TUESDAY, MAY 29, THE CITY COUNCIL WILL GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION "TO DISCUSS ACQUISITION AND/OR USE OF REAL ESTATE PARCELS IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE NEW WALTHAM HIGH SCHOOL."

The Friends of Stonehurst and Waltham Land Trust submitted a thick PRESERVATION PACKET to City officials that included letters, articles and a petition representing thousands of individuals and organizations throughout the region and country who oppose the plan to develop any piece of the Paine Estate for a new high school.

Meanwhile, the School Committee has proposed to build a BORDER FENCE between the Paine Estate and the Waltham High School, blocking access from the north to the estate, the only forested wheelchair accessible trail in Waltham and the fire road to the estate. It seemed ready for a vote on April 25, but they did not discuss or vote on the issue that night. The Friends submitted a letter opposing the proposed fence.
